Forest Bathing bar soap

by Ritual Mischief

$9.00

Our most popular soap among locals, these hand and body soaps are made with windfall whidbey Douglas fir and western red cedar branches (and sometimes branches gifted from trusted neighbors who had to trim branches due to deck or home expansions or home or land maintenance projects. We also add a few local roses (rose petals, buds, and new leaves) to the mix because so many wild rugosa and Nootka roses greet us as we walk into and out of the woods here. After 10 years of building a relationship with the Douglas fir here, in 2023 we also received permission from the trees to include dried and ground Douglas fir springtime tips for a double dose of our closest forest friends. This was the forests’ idea, not ours. The ground tips make the soap more exfoliatingThe soap cleans like a champ and most people find the fir+cedar+rose scent to be both relaxing and invigorating--a magic that we entirely attribute to the forest we wander, listen to, and love.

We call this our forest-bathing soap, because for us using this soap in the shower or the bath has a similar relaxing, calming, and eventually invigorating effect to how we feel when walking in the woods. Sometimes it’s even more calming, honestly, because here we spend half our forest walks telling Cora dog to stop eating salal berries and blackberries and huckleberries, and slugs and ants and spiders, and bird poo, and horse poo, and other random things off the ground in the woods, while the trees look down on us with humor and delight. They live in our Safety & Welcome family because the forest helps us feel welcome on earth--exactly as we are--most days.

Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use (such as on a soap rest, soap drainer, or on a folded, dry wash cloth) and where it doesn't get regular spray from the faucet.
