Handmade Western red cedar soap rest, shampoo bar rest, dish soap bar rest

$16.00

Our friend Teresa of sister-run Mountain Tree Farm in Arlington, WA dropped these off as a surprise for us at the end of 2021. Such a sweetheart! They've been so popular that we quickly had to order more. They're made from windfall Western red cedar from their well-loved land. There are so many trees that they have some trees naturally fall down every year! Teresa uses one of these windfall trees to make cool soap rests, by hand, and then she sands them smooth. How she does this all her responsibilities and two little ones on hand is nothing short of remarkable to me.

This batch is raw wood from a western red cedar tree that Teresa helped her dad move from where it first fell--a tree and a memory that she deeply treasures. Teresa has experimented with applying different natural oils and products to prolong the life of the wood, but she found that the raw wood ages best--and supports the soap best--on its own and in its natural state. Wise beyond her years this woman is. She adds small cork feet to the bottom of the soap rests now to allow a bit of air underneath, which helps them dry even more quickly. Teresa warns that they could stain white grout because the wood loses a tiny bit of color now and then, but most countertops these days won't mind.

Note: Price is for one handmade western red cedar soap rest without soap--photos with soaps are just to show size and scale.

To use: Set one or two of our dish soap bars, soaps, shampoo bars, or doggie shampoo bars onto the soap rest to dry when not in use. These will hasten dry time and ensure that your bars last as long as possible. Place these outside of where they would receive regular spray from the faucet. The wood can handle regular spray, but the soaps will last longer if they don't receive regular spray from the faucet.

Size: The soap rests are 3.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches long, and just under an inch tall. Each one is unique.

Ingredients: Windfall Western red cedar + farmer and sisterly ingenuity + long-time friendship and generosity
