This hand soap is the predecessor to our Forest Bathing bars. We have sporadic access to juniper, though, so these smaller 3-ounce hand soaps are not always available. All of our local conifer-based soaps have similar calming effects to walking in the woods here. Sometimes they're even more calming than a walk--especially when you have to spend half your forest walk telling your puppy or kiddo to drop things and stop eating every random insect, leaf, stick, moss, droppings, and other things they find on the ground in the woods. ;-)
These bars are made with Douglas Fir branches gathered on Whidbey after winter storms and Juniper branches given to us as gifts from friends who had to trim branches due to home expansion and maintenance projects. The soap cleans like a champ, has a woodsy clean slightly spicy scent, and most people find the fir/juniper scent to be calming, relaxing and uplifting--like receiving a hug from a generous tree (or a sexy lumberjack if you prefer that image) after a long, hard day.
Storage and life of the bar: To extend the life of the bar, store it where it can dry quickly after use (like on a soap rest or folded up dry washcloth) and where it doesn't get regular spray from the faucet.
Size: Roughly 3-ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 3 ounce and that the bars can range from 2.8 ounces to 3.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than 2.8 ounces for ourselves and our families and to give as gifts to neighbors in need. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)
Ingredients: Whidbey windfall Douglas Fir and gifted Juniper branches infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus castor oil, sustainably sourced palm oil, coconut oil, distilled water, sodium hydroxide, sodium lactate, and fir essential oil .
Packaging: This year, because of the global pandemic, we decided to wrap our soaps and shampoo bars in a small piece of paper to ensure safe handling. If you would prefer no packaging at all, just put that in the comments field when you order, and you'll get them bare naked! If you live off island and we ship them to you, they will still need to show up in a box. We're magic, but not that magic. Yet. :-)
