Unscented Dandelion Nettle shampoo bar

This unscented shampoo bar has no essential oils added to the mix to round out the natural scent of the plants and oils (like our other shampoo bars do). We originally created it for several friends with sensitive skin who have "zero essential oils" life policies. We don't use fragrance oils in any of our herbal products, so you don't have to worry about fragrance oils either. These bars can also be used as body soap.

Our shampoo bar makers history: We started making shampoo bars a few years ago, because we were trying to do our part in reducing our use of plastic. We started selling them because neighbors on Whidbey started asking for them. It felt odd, at first, to use a bar instead of a bottle of liquid to shampoo with, and personally it took me three showers using the shampoo bars before I fell in love--and then I fell in love hard because my frizzy hair became more manageable and I'd figured out how much lather works for me. Now we all love them here, and we can't imagine going back to a bottle. 

About the plants and our relationship with them: All of our shampoo bars are made with locally grown and gathered Whidbey Island plants/herbs/flowers infused into olive oil before they become a shampoo bar. All of the plants we chose are abundant, not endangered, and even then we take only a tiny bit of any stand so that pollinators, wild life, and our human neighbors can also enjoy and lean on them. We also chose plants known by elders and wise women to be good for both hair and scalp. Which plants call to you? Wild dandelion and nettle? Soothing lavender and mint? Or refreshing rosemary and mint? The choice is yours. Follow your intuition and heart or read up on these generous plants and herbs before choosing. 

To use: Some people rub the shampoo bar between their hands until they get enough lather and then shampoo like normal. Most of us rub the bar directly onto our heads until we get enough lather, then shampoo like normal. So simple! Goodbye plastic!

Storage and life of the bar: Store the bar where it can dry quickly and store as far away from the shower or bath faucet/downpour of water as you can. How long your bar lasts also depends on factors such as how much lather you need/like, how long and thick your hair is, how often you wash your hair, and if you use the bar as body soap too or just to shampoo with. If you store it away from a direct downpour of shower or bath water, the bar should last longer than a standard size bottle of shampoo. Personally, I've had one bar last a year, but I only shampoo once a week, I have short hair, and I use our other soap bars as my body soap. My sister--who has long hair and showers every single day without fail--uses several shampoo bars a year.

Size:  Roughly 3 ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. This means most bars are 3 ounce and that the bars can range from 2.8 ounces to 3.5 ounces. We keep anything smaller than 2.8 ounces for ourselves and our families and to give as gifts to neighbors in need. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-) 

Ingredients: Grown on Whidbey (at Ritual Mischief and also ethically gathered from neighboring fields and woods where no spraying happens) dandelion flowers and nettle tops infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, and sodium lactate.  

Packaging: Wrapped in a small piece of compostable paper to ensure safe handling.
