This new-for-2022 Whidbey Lavender Rosemary Mint shampoo is a new favorite. They smell amazing--if you love fresh lavender--and they're full of scalp-loving plants. In addition to the restful and relaxing scent of the bars, Rosemary is known to help with flaky scalp/dandruff and lavender to sooth scalp irritation and itching. This bar lives in our Rest & Recharge family (a family of plants & offerings interested in helping you feel more well rested on earth). Store the bars well, and they'll last longer than a bottle of shampoo. These bars can also be used as body soap.

It felt odd, at first, to use a bar instead of a bottle of liquid to shampoo with, and personally it took me three showers using the shampoo bars before I fell in love--and then I fell in love hard because my frizzy hair became more manageable, and I'd finally figured out how much lather works for me. Now I love them and can't imagine going back to a bottle.

To use: Get your hair wet in the shower or bath. Some people rub the shampoo bar between their hands until they get enough lather and then shampoo like normal. Most of us rub the bar directly onto our wet hair until we get enough lather (how much you need is up to you), then shampoo like normal. So simple! Goodbye single-use plastic containers!

Storage and life of the bar: Store the bar where it can dry quickly and store as far away from the shower or bath faucet/downpour of water as you can. How long your bar lasts also depends on factors such as how much lather you need/like, how long and thick your hair is, how often you wash your hair, and if you use the bar as body soap too or just to shampoo with. If you store it away from a direct downpour of shower or bath water, the bar should last longer than a standard size bottle of shampoo. I've had one bar last more than a year, but I only shampoo once a week, I have short hair, and I use our other soap bars as my body soap. My sister--who has long curly hair and showers every single day--uses several bars a year.

About the plants and our relationships with them: The rosemary, mint, and lavender in this bar grow here on our land just outside Langley on Whidbey. The pinch of Japanese indigo is grown by friend & soap maker Gina in her Seattle garden. All of our shampoo bars are made with locally grown and gathered Whidbey Island plants infused into olive oil before they become a shampoo bar or other offering. The plants are not endangered, and even so, we take only a small fraction of any stand of plant, leaving most for pollinators, wildlife, and human neighbors to enjoy and lean on. We also only chose plants, herbs, and flowers known by elders and wise women to be good for both hair and scalp. Which plants call to you? Follow your intuition and heart or read up on these generous plants and herbs before choosing.

Size: Roughly 4-ounce bars. These are made by hand in small batches and hand cut by cool women, not machines. We keep anything cut smaller than 3.8 ounces for ourselves and our families and to give as gifts to neighbors in need. We're not machines, people, nor do we want to be. :-)

Ingredients: Grown on Whidbey (at Ritual Mischief where no poison spraying happens) lavender, rosemary, and peppermint infused into organic extra virgin olive oil, plus organic coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, sodium lactate, lavender and peppermint essential oils, tiny pinch of sea clay and Seattle-grown Japanese indigo. The indigo starts are from the lovely women of Rainy Day Nursery on Whidbey, then grown and then turned into powder by Gina in Seattle before coming to rest here. 😊

Packaging: See the Packaging page for details. If you would prefer no packaging at all, just put that in the Comments field when you order, and you'll receive them bare naked!
