Castile Soaps gift set (supports 3 local families)
$30.00Castile soaps are a celebration of soap making, slow living, tradition, olive oil, local plants, and a pure labor of love! This gift set includes one each of our Lavender Castile, Comfrey Castile, and Douglas Fir Castile soaps. Castile soaps are made with no synthetic ingredients or animal fats (true of all our soaps) and made with just olive oil and sodium hydroxide (which is true of just these soaps for us) and made in a style similar to soaps made in the Castile region of Spain. They require long cure times--at least 6 months and up to a year is best. Send this gift set to someone you treasure or give a set to yourself. By choosing this box, you are supporting 3 local families (Ritual Mischief, Gina White, and Whidbey Island Seed). Details of the gift set:
- One slow-cured Lavender Castile soap. We infuse lavender from our garden into organic extra virgin olive oil for 8 weeks. Then, we make and cut the soap by hand. Then, the soap sits in our dark soap closet, curing, for 6 to 12 months, getting better by the day. Then we wrap the soap by hand. This bar smells mildly fragrant and relaxing and is great for when you need to relax and recharge.
- One slow-cured Comfrey Castile soap. We infuse cultivated comfrey leaves and flowers from our trusted local friends' farms and land into organic extra virgin olive oil for 6 weeks. Then, we make and cut the soap by hand. Then, the soap sits in our dark soap closet, curing, for 6 to 12 months, getting better by the day. Then we wrap the soap by hand. Comforting comfrey. Great for when you want to feel comforted, connected to the land, and loved.
- One slow-cured Douglas Fir Castile soap. We infuse windfall Douglas fir branches (from trusted local forest floors after winter wind storms) into organic extra virgin olive oil for 6 to 8 weeks. Then, we make and cut the soap by hand. Then, the soap sits in our dark soap closet, curing, for 6 to 12 months, getting better by the day. Then we wrap the soap by hand. Douglas fir trees are fantastic friends, advisors, and elders. Great for when you want to feel fully welcome--exactly as you are--on earth.

Whidbey folks, you can choose the Pick Up option to avoid shipping costs at check out, and you can pick up from our herbal studio here (I'll email to arrange a pickup time after you order).
Shipping. We ship in the continental US via U.S.P.S. priority mail. If everything goes well, priority shipping takes 1 to 3 days. If it's for an important event, it's best to allow 10 calendar days, because the postal system can get overwhelmed in places and during certain times of the year. If you're buying for Christmas, for example, we suggest ordering by December 12, 2022 to get this gift to someone in time for Christmas. It likely won't take that long, but we don't want to disappoint you if the post office decides to take its sweet time! Absolute last day for shipping in time for Christmas this year is Friday, December 16. Orders must be in by noon Pacific Standard Time that day in order to reach the post office in time.
Product details...
Storage and life of the products: To extend the life of the soap bars, store them where they can dry quickly (like on a soap drainer or folded dry washcloth) after use and where they don't get regular spray from the faucet. Unused, the soaps will last a very long time, possibly even longer than you and me.
Size and shape of soap bars: The rustic castile soap bars are between 3.7 and 4 ounces. They are cut to just above 4 ounces, but they lose a tiny bit of water (and weight) in the extra-long curing process. The long curing time also means that the bars are not perfect rectangles like our other soaps--some are, and some have a slight dent in them from water loss. Other soap makers cut these imperfections away--wasting soap in the process. We love these imperfections! Our soaps are made by hand, in small batches, and hand cut by cool women, not machines. A perfectly delightful soap, and the imperfections are part of their charm.
Ingredients in Lavender Castile soap: Our own lavender infused in organic extra virgin olive oil, plus sodium hydroxide, distilled water, and sodium lactate.
Ingredients in the Comfrey Castile soap: Local comfrey (Symphytum uplandica x) leaf and flower (purple flowers) from our trusted friends' farms (Mountain Tree Farm) and land (thanks Randall!) infused in organic extra virgin olive oil, plus sodium hydroxide, distilled water, and sodium lactate.
Ingredients in the Douglas Fir Castile soap: Windfall Douglas fir branches (gathered after winter windstorms here on Whidbey) infused in organic extra virgin olive oil, sodium hydroxide, distilled water, and sodium lactate.
Packaging: See the Packaging page of this website for details. All soap packaging is recyclable and compostable.
